MARATHON WEEKEND IS UPON US!
That’s right! The Official Guide for the WDW Marathon Weekend has been released! This is so exciting for a few reasons: it helps answer some burning questions like “where will we be running?!” and it gives us planners a peek into what to expect each day. So without further ado, lets review!
HEIGH HO, HEIGH HO, ITS OFF TO RUN WE GO!
The Official Guide is comprised of a few sections: events, expo, transportation, reminders, and maps. Here’s a quick over of each section:
Within the ‘events’ section you’ll find detailed information regarding each race (5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon, and challenges). This includes the course map, a start staging map, and a finish staging map. I found this section to be the most helpful and information dense. After reviewing each race and the challenge information, it seems that each race (except for the full marathon) requires participants to arrive by 4am with each race beginning at 5:30am (the full marathon will begin at 5am). With that info, I’ve determined that I will need to be up and getting ready by 2:45am (!) for the first three races and 2:15am for the full marathon.
My favorite part of race weekend!! In this section you’ll find a virtual goody bag, schedules, and merchandise info for the Health & Fitness Expo as well as some additional information on the Runners Square offering. I found the merchandise section to be helpful as I have pre-ordered a Marathon Weekend Magicband and theres info on exactly where to pick these items up. The virtual goody bag also gives us a peek into the venders we can expect to see during the expo with some special discounts.
This year I’m staying at one of the host resorts and plan on utilizing Disney transportation to get to and from each race. The information in this section gives you the race week bus schedules and helpful information for drivers. As an Orlando native, I have driven to each race in past years and I have found the info within this section to be invaluable. Use this information to help plan your driving route to avoid road closures and to ensure you arrive on time.
In this section, you’ll find reminders that will be especially useful as we come closer to race weekend. I usually review this list while I pack for the race to make sure I’m not forgetting anything (like a printed copy of my waiver).
The maps in this section are dynamic google maps, but I found the course maps linked in the ‘events’ section were much easier to review.
…AND SHE RAN HAPPILY EVER AFTER
Now that the Official Guide is out, we have a better understanding of the logistics of race weekend. Planners like me can now obsess over when to get to the expo, what time to wake up each morning, and review every turn of each race! In addition to planning out my race weekend logistics, my costumes are starting to come together – stay tuned for more!
